Music is our Business

Dear reader,

some of you may have wondered what happened to the ANCHOR – Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award. Usually, the team of prestigious ANCHOR Judges around infamous producer Tony Visconti is announced in June already, but as this year comes with quite a few changes and challenges we had to come up with a new plan. This is why we decided to announce both, ANCHOR 2020 Jury and Nominees, together for the first time as part of Reeperbahn Festival International - On-Site And Online yesterday from Berlin.

And the best part was: you were all invited!
Via livestream, everybody could be with us in Berlin when host Hadnet Tesfai introduced our ANCHOR 2020 Judges Brody Dalle, Darcy Proper, Markus Kavka, Melanie C, Frank Dellé and of course Jury president Tony Visconti and the final six Nominees for the contest in Hamburg in September!

And that’s not all, after the formal introduction of our judges we added some political spice to the round when Hamburgs Minister of Culture and Media Carsten Brosda and President of the Music Business Association Dr. Portia Sabin joined in to have a chat about the importance of culture, particularly music, in eventful times.

Did you miss the stream? No worries we got it all right here for you.

Frank Dellé

As part of Seeed, he stands on stages in front of up to 20,000 people. Besides he also produces his own unagitated exciting tracks. In his own intimate, calm way he deals with, on the contrary, loud topics like terror and misunderstood beliefs.

Tony Visconti

The New York-based producer has not only been a vital part of the most decisive moments in David Bowie’s career, but was also the key person behind T. Rex’ recordings as well as Sparks, the Moody Blues, Thin Lizzy and many other artists he’s had the pleasure to work with.

The Berlin based artist Arya Zappa is a total work of art - musically, visually, poetically. She creates an idiosyncratic atmosphere that moves between 70's synthwave and a surrealistic noir aura.

The duo, consisting of Inéz Schaefer and Demian Kappenstein from Dresden, combines futuristic indietronica, rich rhythms and glorious vocals in their music and awakens a longing that always means departure - goosebumps included.

The Dutch singer-songwriter has been celebrated in the Benelux countries for years. Now it slowly seems that behind her dark drums, warmsynths, catchy songs and a mesmerizing voice hides a true pop visionary.

The Swiss ensemble captivates without vocals through its fused funk with highlife, disco with dub and even isolated kraut rock vibes with playful ease to an organic whole that effortlessly eludes classical categorizations.

The French self-made artist and singer songwriter dedicates her songs to gender pluralism, sexualized violence, but also ecological crisis or the omnipresence of social networks. She playfully combines the charm of French chansons with infectious dance beats and electro synths.

While capturing a strange magic in her songs, the compositions of the Norwegian artist range from delicate, piano-led folk to softly-soaring post-rock, which wraps the listener up in their own special atmosphere.
